What our Veterinary Technician Do

As a Veterinary Technician at New Tampa Animal Hospital, you'll be an essential member of our medical team and play an important role in delivering exceptional care from patient intake through discharge.

  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, medical procedures, and surgery
  • Obtain and document thorough patient histories, weights, vital signs, and other clinical information
  • Safely handle and restrain patients while prioritizing patient comfort and safety
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare diagnostic samples for reference laboratories
  • Perform venipuncture and assist with diagnostic sample collection
  • Place and maintain IV catheters based on experience and training
  • Administer medications, vaccines, treatments, and prescribed therapies as directed by the veterinarian
  • Administer fluids and blood products as directed
  • Operate and maintain IV pumps and related equipment
  • Prepare patients, instruments, equipment, and surgical suites for procedures
  • Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, recovery, and postoperative patient care
  • Monitor hospitalized, recovering, and critically ill patients and communicate changes in condition to the medical team
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs using appropriate positioning and safety techniques
  • Clean, maintain, and sterilize medical and surgical instruments and equipment
  • Ensure imaging, anesthesia, and patient-monitoring equipment is functioning properly
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners
  • Educate clients about preventive care, vaccines, parasite prevention, nutrition, medications, diets, and veterinary products
  • Provide clear discharge and home-care instructions
  • Conduct client follow-up calls and other patient-care communications
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and teammates to maintain an efficient daily workflow

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a Veterinary Technician who combines strong technical skills with compassion, communication, and a genuine commitment to exceptional patient care.

  • Previous Veterinary Technician experience
  • Veterinary Technician licensure is welcomed
  • Strong patient handling and restraint skills
  • Experience assisting with examinations, treatments, procedures, and surgery
  • Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic sample collection
  • Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery
  • Comfort providing nursing care to hospitalized and critically ill patients
  • Experience with laboratory testing and diagnostic procedures
  • Familiarity with diagnostic radiography and proper positioning techniques
  • Strong knowledge of medication administration and patient treatments
  • Excellent client communication and education skills
  • The ability to explain medications, preventive care, nutrition, and home-care instructions with clarity and compassion
  • Accurate and thorough medical documentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • The ability to multitask and adapt in a busy veterinary environment
