Position Details
- Role: Veterinary Assistant
- Status: Full-time
- Salary: Negotiable and based on experience
- Schedule: The clinic is open Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm. This person is expected to work 32-36 hours per week to maintain full-time status, but is not required to work 5 days a week

East Hartford Animal Clinic is a high-volume, small animal general practice providing compassionate and comprehensive veterinary care for dogs and cats. We are a team-oriented clinic that values professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to patient well-being. Our Veterinary Assistants play an essential role in ensuring both patients and clients have a positive experience at every visit.
Position Overview:
We’re looking for a Veterinary Assistant who is reliable, motivated, and eager to grow their skills in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a love for animals, and a desire to support both the medical team and our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
- Restrain patients safely and compassionately for exams and diagnostics
- Prepare exam rooms, surgical areas, and treatment spaces
- Clean and sterilize equipment and maintain a clean hospital environment
- Assist with vaccine preparation and administration under supervision
- Provide basic patient care such as walking, feeding, and monitoring recovery
- Educate clients on general pet care, parasite prevention, and post-visit instructions
- Stock supplies and ensure proper inventory levels in exam and treatment areas
- Support front desk staff with patient intake, discharges, or occasional client communication
Required Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary setting preferred (but will train the right candidate with strong animal handling skills)
- Knowledge of basic animal handling and restraint techniques
- Ability to multitask and stay calm in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Willingness to learn and grow with the team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with vaccine protocols and preventive care education
- Familiarity with veterinary software or EMRs
- Bilingual a plus (but not required)
